Camino de Compostela

The Way


This story is one of grief, divine guidance, redemption and direction. 

I lost the first love of my life to a glioblastoma brain tumor on February 6th, 2013, two-and-a-half years after we got married. I proposed to her shortly after her diagnoses was upgraded to Stage 4 on a visit to the Duke Brain Tumor Center.

However, our story goes back way further than that to a great encounter in a dive honky-tonk bar in Dallas, Texas in 2005. I hope to tell this whole story while chronicling the journey that change my life. This journey was an impromptu, unknown 200 + mile hike on the rails-to-trails of the Camino de Compostela in Spain. I embarked on this pilgrimage within, one can say, minutes of her passing away.
